Description
Camosy is proud to have been selected as the Construction Manager for the Kenosha County Ceremonial Courtroom Restoration Project, following several successful collaborations with Kenosha County, including work at Brookside Care Center and the historic renovation of the Anderson Arts Center at Kemper Center.
The Ceremonial Courtroom in the Kenosha County Courthouse will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2025. This historic space has long served as a powerful symbol of justice and community, and now it’s time to restore it for future generations.
Although still stately, the courtroom’s original beauty has been hidden by a drop ceiling and outdated mechanical systems. Above that ceiling, much of the original plasterwork and architectural detail remains, some damaged, but much of it intact. Recent micro-restoration efforts have confirmed that a full restoration is possible.
The restoration project will:
- Remove the suspended ceiling and old ductwork
- Restore the original decorative plaster ceiling and upper wall finishes
- Install new, modern HVAC and electrical systems, hidden above the restored ceiling
- Restore the art glass skylight with LED backlighting
- Recreate the original decorative painting on the walls
- Install new cork flooring to complement the historic finishes
- Restore all existing historic furniture within the courtroom
- Remodel the adjacent judge’s office and conference room
This restoration will preserve a historic treasure and open the space for community use, educational programs, and historical tours.
Kenosha County has received a prestigious $675,000 challenge grant from the Jeffris Family Foundation, which requires $1.35 million in matching donations.
By restoring the Ceremonial Courtroom, we honor the past, serve the present, and invest in a legacy for the future.
