Description
The Mount Prospect Police Station project created a new 90,000 SF, state-of-the-art police station through the adaptive reuse conversion of an existing former manufacturing and warehousing building. Camosy was selected as the Construction Manager at Risk after a competitive Quality Based Selection process in the summer of 2018. The project was completed in June 2020, one month ahead of schedule despite the added challenge of the COVID pandemic beginning about halfway into the construction process.
Although technically an adaptive reuse project, the extent of work involved essentially makes this a “new” facility. The work includes completely new, energy-efficient HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems and a completely new floor plan designed and constructed to accommodate the specific operational and functional needs of the Mount Prospect Police Department, along with a new exterior skin and significant addition to create a new main entry.
The new station includes a public lobby, public-use meeting space, records area, soft interview spaces, report rooms, drive-thru sally port, booking and detention with mass arrest and eight holding areas, line-up room, hard interview rooms, an open configuration firing range, armory, indoor parking for 52 vehicles, general training room, evidence processing and storage, evidence garage, defense training room, fitness center, records, and complete office and support areas for investigations, command staff, cyber-crimes, crime prevention, patrol areas, roll-call, staff locker facilities, full emergency power and the complete complement of ancillary and other support spaces.
