Description
The City of Oconomowoc Police Department had been operating out of the City Hall for many years, and the City Common Council recognized that this arrangement was no longer viable. After considering several other options, the City purchased a 40,000 SF former grocery store to be converted into the new Police Station. FGM Architect’s Milwaukee office was the architect for this adaptive reuse project. Camosy was the successful low-bidder general contractor through an open competitive bid process with a contract award in October 2019. The project was completed on schedule in August 2020.
The design converted the existing former grocery store building to the new police station and includes indoor parking for sixteen vehicles, evidence processing and storage areas, a fitness area, staff locker rooms, two vehicle sally-port, a booking and detention area, a public lobby, citizens report room, records, and dispatch. The design also provides a multi-purpose/courtroom space, judges’ office, and support spaces. Dedicated Police spaces include offices for the command staff, Major Cases, Investigations, ICAC offices, Patrol, Roll Call, Interview rooms, conference rooms, storage rooms, break rooms, toilet rooms, and other support and ancillary spaces.
The work includes all new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, new fire sprinkler system, a fire alarm system, and an overall security system package.
The exterior of the building was also updated, including new rain-screen metal wall panels at the main façade, masonry repairs throughout, all new windows, and new paint. The main entrance is designed to be easily identified and welcoming to the public but is also hardened to provide added protection for all persons in the building. Camosy was the successful low-bidder following an open Competitive Hard Bid Process.
